Physics 20 Question...?

The intensity of light from the sun varies by the inverse square of the distance because light radiated from the sun is spherical (as distance increases the surface area of a sphere grows by the square of the distance). So we can say the light intensity on Mercury is 4^2 times more intense than on Mars, i.e., the sun appears 16 times brighter on Mercury than Mars.
